We are thrilled to be able to offer the students of St. Peter an amazing new learning opportunity in the form of our SEAL program.
SEAL stands for “Sports Excellence Athletic Leadership” and is a Specialist High Skills Major program geared towards those interested in a career in sport. It is designed to meet the interests and needs of those with a love of sport.
Students will take a bundle of sports related academic credits that provide sport-specific knowledge and skills. The four courses may include one cooperative education credit related to the sector.
Students will engage in extra credit training in areas such as:
coaching – performance & theory
concussion awareness
conflict resolution
equity and inclusion
event coordination
first aid/CPR/AED
group dynamics
HIGH FIVE child development principles
incident management
instructor certification
leadership skills
life-saving (Bronze Cross or higher)
officiating
personal training
portfolio development
project management
risk management
sport nutrition
sport program design
sports team trainer certification
wilderness first aid/survival
working with individuals with disabilities
wrapping and taping for performance and injury
Students will also engage in experiential learning and career exploration opportunities relevant to the sports sector such as:
a day-long observation of an employee in the sports sector (an example of job shadowing)
a one- or two-week work experience with a member of an industry association or a professional in the sector (an example of work experience)
a volunteer experience at a community sports facility or at a professional sports team event
an experience coaching an elementary school student or team in an extracurricular activity
participation in an exercise class at a fitness facility
a tour of an athletic facility
a tour of an athletic and/or academic program at the college or university level
attendance at a sports sector career fair
